PIEAS dates back to 1967 when Pakistan’s industrial activity boomed. The Institute became a full-fledged university registered in 1997 under the name of Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences. In response to Pakistan’s growing industrialization, the Institute was established as a reactor school in association with Islamabad-based Quaid-e-Azam University. By 1976, the Institute had become a center for nuclear studies. The university is currently an independent, independent degree-granting institution.
The Center for Nuclear Studies (CNS) renamed itself in 1976 and became independent in 1997 as a public university. The school was established as a reactor in 1967 under the auspices of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission in response to the support and management of nuclear energy infrastructure in Pakistan. In 2000, PIEAS was recognized as a doctoral institution. PIEAS is based on a 150 acre (0.61 km2 0. 0.23 square mile) campus and has 135 full-time faculty members.

PIEAS students have access to the HEC Digital Library. Hostel service is also provided to PIEAS students. Hostel facilities are available for both male and female students. Most students prefer to stay in hostels. There are 8 hostel blocks in total. The computer center is equipped with the latest hardware and software. The computer lab is accessible to students 7 days a week. The hostels are comfortable and well designed. Subsidized mess and canteen facilities are available for students where fresh and hygienic food is served. Tuck shops, photocopy shops, common rooms, prayer rooms, and a mosque can also be found on campus.
The first college classes were presented in a lecture auditorium at the Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (PINSTECH), with only one faculty member from Mississippi State University, Dr. Inam-ur-Rehman, to teach engineering courses. In 1967, the Institute was found and established as a reactor school by IH Osmani, which managed the school under the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) – the main purpose of the school was to support Pakistan’s nuclear energy infrastructure. Was to provide technical training. In addition to teaching the basics in engineering, its scope was very limited and the institute itself was located at 625 square feet in the auditorium of the Nuclear Science and Technology.
